“I Just Want to Make My Family Proud” – Chelsea’s New Brazilian Wonderkid Estevão Speaks from London

Chelsea Football Club’s latest signing, Estevão Willian, has landed in London with more than football dreams — the 18-year-old Brazilian sensation says his biggest goal is to honour the sacrifices of his family and write his own chapter in the Blues’ growing history of South American success. After dazzling fans in Brazil with his explosive pace, dazzling dribbles, and remarkable maturity at Palmeiras, Estevão is now ready to embrace a new challenge in the English Premier League — and he’s doing so with humility and heart.

“It’s not just about the titles,” he said in his first sit-down at Chelsea’s Cobham training centre. “It’s about making my family proud. That’s what drives me — their struggles, their dreams, and the belief they’ve always had in me.”

Born in the city of Franca, Estevão’s journey started early. Guided by his father — a former footballer turned pastor — he was scouted by Cruzeiro at the age of eight. Four years later, he made a bold move to Palmeiras, where his career took flight.

By the time he was 17, Estevão had not only earned national youth team honours for Brazil, but had also registered 83 senior appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 15 assists — numbers that sparked a fierce transfer battle across Europe.

Chelsea eventually won the race for his signature, reportedly beating out top clubs from Spain, France, and Italy.

“The structure, the vision, the people — it all felt right. Chelsea was the best decision we could have made,” Estevão said with confidence.

It’s not lost on the young forward that he is joining a club with a rich legacy of Brazilian flair. From Willian and David Luiz to Oscar, Ramires, and Thiago Silva, Chelsea has long been a welcoming stage for talent from Brazil.

“To wear the same shirt as those guys is a dream. Willian, especially, was one of my favourites. He made it look so easy here,” Estevão said, flashing a wide smile.

His inspirations, however, extend beyond Chelsea. Lionel Messi and Neymar top the list — not just for their footballing genius, but for their resilience and longevity.

“Messi and Neymar have always been the benchmark. Their creativity, their mentality. That’s what I aspire to.”

While London offers a new culture, language, and climate, Estevão is already adjusting. He arrived after a short summer break, eager to meet new teammates, explore the city, and understand the Chelsea philosophy from Day 1.

“London is incredible. The people are welcoming. Everything feels big, like something important is happening.”

Though he is expected to be integrated gradually into the squad, Chelsea fans are already buzzing about the teenager who once scored against the Blues in a Club World Cup fixture. Now on the inside, Estevão says he’s focused on building his legacy one game at a time.

“I want to win everything — the Premier League, the Champions League. But more than that, I want to be remembered as someone who gave his all.”

Chelsea’s sporting project under new ownership has focused heavily on youth, and Estevão fits the profile: raw talent with elite potential. With the likes of Enzo Fernández, Moisés Caicedo, and fellow Brazilian Andrey Santos already in the mix, manager Enzo Maresca may have one of the most dynamic young squads in Europe at his disposal.

Patience will be key, but if his past is anything to go by, Estevão is unlikely to shy away from the spotlight. The kid from Franca has already defied expectations. Now, he’s ready to take on Stamford Bridge.
