🚨 Keffi Jailbreak: 16 Inmates Flee Custody, Manhunt Underway

Keffi, Nasarawa State — In the early hours of Tuesday, August 12, chaos erupted at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi when sixteen inmates broke free after overpowering security personnel.

According to prison authorities, five officers sustained injuries during the incident, with two currently receiving intensive treatment. Swift response teams have since recaptured seven of the escapees, but nine remain on the run.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, visited the facility hours after the breach. He announced a full-scale investigation into how the security was compromised and warned that any staff found negligent or complicit would face disciplinary action.

A coordinated search involving multiple security agencies is ongoing across Nasarawa and neighbouring states. Residents have been urged to stay alert and report any suspicious movements to the nearest security post.

This marks the third prison break reported in Nigeria in 2025, raising fresh concerns over correctional facility security nationwide.
