Ibom Air: Lawyer Explains How Passenger Who Slapped Air Hostess Could Win Millions if She Sues Airline

Monday, August 11, 2025 — By Victoria Nwahiri

A Nigerian lawyer has shared how an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, who was filmed slapping an air hostess, could potentially win millions if she decided to sue the airline.

The incident, captured in multiple videos, shows Comfort slapping an air hostess on the plane and later struggling with airport security at Lagos airport. In one of the clips, her private parts were exposed after she was forcefully pulled out of the plane.

According to a legal analysis posted on X by lawyer @RickAnji, Comfort could sue for breach of contract of carriage, assault and battery, defamation, and privacy violation.

“From a legal standpoint, this woman has a very good case against Akwa Ibom Air. She can sue for hundreds of millions and will likely win,” he wrote.

He explained that when a passenger buys a ticket, they enter into a legal contract with the airline for safe, dignified, and timely carriage. Unlawfully ejecting a passenger in a manner that causes humiliation—especially when recorded and posted online—can be considered a breach of that contract.

The lawyer also pointed out that any unwanted physical contact, particularly by unauthorized persons, may amount to battery. Additionally, being stripped in public and recorded could be grounds for defamation and violation of privacy.

While some social media users supported the lawyer’s perspective, others argued that Comfort’s actions—slapping a hostess and resisting security—could work against her in court.

One user, @kennytuyi, wrote:

“Only the one who can prove beyond reasonable doubt will win. She behaved so unruly.”

Another user, @Harro_king, added:

“Stripping her naked wasn’t their intention, but the way they handled her gave her grounds to counter every other offence.”
