Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about how the heartbreaking loss of his first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022 reshaped his life and career.
In October 2022, tragedy struck when three-year-old Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence in Lagos State. Speaking in a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido described the incident as “life-changing” and revealed how it transformed his outlook on life, music, and family.
“Stepping away after losing my son and looking back at my career gave me a new focus on how I wanted to move forward. It completely changed my life,” Davido said.
The singer also expressed pride in the way he and his wife, Chioma Adeleke, managed to navigate through the difficult period. He noted that their resilience has inspired countless people facing their own struggles.
“I can’t count how many times strangers have stopped me at the airport to tell me how my strength gave them hope during tough times. I told my wife recently that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we have twins — full of energy, running around the house. For us to experience such a painful loss and still rise again in a big way is huge,” he added.
Davido’s story continues to resonate with fans around the world, not just for his music, but for his journey of strength, faith, and recovery after unimaginable loss.
