Social media was thrown into heated debate this week after popular Nigerian skit maker KlintonCod suggested that Peter Obi should replace his current running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, with UK-based Nigerian politician Kemi Badenoch ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The UK-based comedian took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the bold statement, calling an Obi-Badenoch ticket a potential game-changer that could “sweeten Nigeria” in a way citizens have never seen before.
“Left to me, I would even pair Kemi Badenoch as Obi’s vice,” he wrote. “The country go sweet dieeeee. Make one naira miss for NNPC first.”
Kemi Badenoch is a British Conservative MP and current minister in the UK government, but her Nigerian roots and recent controversial remarks about her boarding school experience at FGGC Sagamu stirred heavy reactions online.
In a past interview, Badenoch described her boarding school days in Nigeria as “prison-like” — a comment that sparked mixed responses from Nigerians. Many accused her of disrespecting her homeland, while others agreed with her blunt assessment.
KlintonCod firmly sided with Badenoch, insisting that her honesty should be applauded, not attacked. According to him, her comments reflect a reality that many Nigerians experienced in the flawed school system. Backing up Badenoch’s account, KlintonCod shared his own harrowing memories of life in a Nigerian boarding school:
“In my school, students used machetes to fight. Seniors flogged juniors with cutlasses. We had cult fights at night. If you bring provision from home, just know it belongs to a senior. The only difference between us and prisoners was mid-term break.”
His raw description struck a nerve with many Nigerians online, sparking a flood of similar testimonies from people who grew up in the country’s boarding school system. Nigerians on social media didn’t hold back in sharing their thoughts. While some praised Klinton for speaking out and hailed Kemi Badenoch as a bold truth-teller, others felt the idea of her as a vice-presidential candidate was unrealistic.
One user wrote:
“If we stop running to other countries, we’ll be forced to fix ours. That woman isn’t lying, she’s just too honest.”
Another joked:
“If she becomes VP, National Assembly go turn prison. One small corruption and it’s orange jumpsuit straight!”
Others, however, questioned the seriousness of the idea:
“You think say running a country be like managing hostel? Calm down.”
Obi’s Political Future in Focus
While KlintonCod’s post may have started as satire or wishful thinking, it has reopened discussions around Peter Obi’s 2027 ambitions, his running mate choice, and what kind of leadership Nigerians are truly yearning for.
Kemi Badenoch, despite being a UK politician, has strong Nigerian roots and continues to attract attention from young Nigerians who admire her no-nonsense style and tough stance on corruption.
Not long ago, acclaimed Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie also publicly endorsed Peter Obi, describing him as “a rare leader” with the integrity Nigeria needs.
