Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has disclosed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 reward and other promises made by the Federal Government after their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade said the players have not seen any of the financial rewards announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following their historic triumph.
When asked by Chude if the payment had been made, Ajibade replied:
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid. So far, none of the promises have been fulfilled.”
The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending WAFCON title in 2024, defeating Morocco in the final. After the win, President Tinubu conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on the team and technical crew, alongside a pledge of $100,000 for each player and a three-bedroom flat.
While hosting the champions at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu praised them for their “resilience, determination, and courage,” describing their victory as a source of national pride. However, over a year later, the team says the funds and housing have not been delivered.

News of the unpaid bonuses has sparked outrage among Nigerians on social media.

Another fan, @Eze_Football, added:

As the wait continues, fans and sports advocates are calling on the Federal Government to honour its pledges to the Super Falcons, noting that timely reward motivates athletes to do more for the country.
