No Vacancy in Aso Rock, Yoruba Group Declares
Abuja: The Yoruba Ni Colorado (YNC), an umbrella association for Yoruba people residing in Colorado, United States of America, has weighed in on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, declaring that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock” ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
The group made this declaration on Tuesday during a working visit to the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) in Abuja, reinforcing its commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the event, YNC President Dr. Adetola Obiwole revealed that their delegation was also in Nigeria with a medical team to provide free healthcare services to underserved communities. She further urged the National Assembly to expedite work on constitutional amendments that would allow Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in elections through diaspora voting.
“We restate our unalloyed support for the president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and urge the National Assembly to speed up work on legislation that would guarantee diaspora voting,” she said.
The General Secretary of YNC, Prince George Sotade, was emphatic in his remarks:
“We don’t need to talk too much. There is no vacancy in the Villa. Anybody running around is just doing that to bring more votes for Asiwaju. The TSG is doing a good job in mobilizing for him. This visit is to let the world know that the Yoruba nation in the U.S. — and by extension, all Nigerians in the diaspora — are behind Asiwaju.”
In his response, TSG Director General, Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai, expressed gratitude to the YNC for its unwavering support. He commended their philanthropic efforts in Nigeria and challenged medical professionals in the diaspora to create advanced mentorship programs for Nigerian medical practitioners.
“Some Nigerians, when they travel, forget home. But you are different. Your dedication to Nigeria’s progress and your consistency in supporting Asiwaju, even since 2023, is commendable,” Yakasai said.
He also called on the group to encourage Nigerians abroad to return home and vote, stressing that “every vote counts.”
