Eti-Osa LGA Renames Six Streets Amid Street-Naming Controversy in Lagos

The Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State has officially renamed six streets across various communities under its administration. This development comes at a time when debates around street renaming are gaining momentum across the state, following the controversial change of the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop” by the Bariga Local Council Development Area.

According to the Eti-Osa council, the renaming exercise is part of a broader initiative to update street identities in line with the area’s evolving historical and cultural landscape. The announcement was made by the Council Manager, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun, who emphasized that the changes are effective immediately.

Below is the updated list of renamed streets:

Tony Amadasun Road (Igbo Efon) → Chief Femi Pedro Road

Dr. Udo Wogu Drive (Chevy View) → Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive

Augusta Orji Street (Aro Ologolo) → Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street

Chike Mba Close (Osapa London) → Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close

Ugochukwu Orji Street (Igbo Efon) → Barr. Wale Sanni Street

Fubara Dublin Green Street (Igbo Efon) → Rafiu Olukolu Street

The renaming initiative is reportedly part of ongoing efforts to enhance navigation, identity management, and urban documentation in the area.

Meanwhile, the recent decision in Bariga to rename Charly Boy Bus Stop after music star Olamide Baddo has sparked significant public reactions, including criticism from notable figures such as human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), who questioned the legality of the move.

For residents and commuters, the newly named streets in Eti-Osa will be updated on official maps and signage in the coming weeks.
