NOSDRA, Green Clean Innovation Hub Sign MoU to Host International Oil Spill Summit

The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Clean Innovation Hub to jointly organize the International Oil Spill Summit and Expo in Nigeria.

The signing ceremony took place on Monday at NOSDRA’s headquarters in Abuja.

The summit will serve as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among industry players, government agencies, community leaders, and environmental experts.

It aims to bring together local and international stakeholders to discuss the environmental, economic, and social impacts of oil spills and showcase innovative technologies, policies, and strategies for spill prevention, detection, and response.

Director General of NOSDRA, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, expressed appreciation for Green Clean Innovation Hub’s long-standing partnership since 2012.

“This is a very critical conference that will unite operators in the oil and gas industry, host communities, traditional rulers, civil society, security agencies, and the media. This platform will help bridge gaps, resolve challenges, and foster better understanding among all parties,” Woke stated.

He emphasized that the summit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes sustainable development and environmental protection.

Woke also noted the event would advance Nigeria’s capacity to respond effectively to oil spill incidents while promoting collaboration, innovation, and environmental stewardship.

CEO of Green Clean Innovation Hub, Mr. Promise Amaha, described the MoU as a significant step forward.

“The Expo will mark the launch of the first-ever Oil Spill Host Communities in Renewed Hope Initiative. We will also unveil strategic measures to enhance community involvement in surveillance, reporting, and capacity building,” Amaha said.

He commended NOSDRA’s leadership for securing the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) as a co-host, adding that high-level government involvement would boost credibility, attract wider participation, and strengthen Nigeria’s commitment to tackling oil spill challenges.
