Peter Obi Meets PDP Governor, Reveals Opposition’s Strategy to Unseat Tinubu in 2027

Bauchi, Nigeria — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for unity among opposition parties as the key to defeating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. Obi made this statement on Friday, August 8, during his visit to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

While Obi said his trip was partly to visit two nursing schools in the state, he admitted that his meeting with Governor Bala went beyond healthcare — it was about finding collaborative solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“To all of us in the opposition, it’s important that we work together. It’s no longer about us; it’s about our country. Our politics must change — it must be the politics of development, competence, capacity, and compassion,” Obi stated.

According to Obi, only a united front by the Labour Party, PDP, and other opposition forces can challenge the APC’s grip on power and set Nigeria on a new path.

This comes after Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, confirmed ongoing talks between Obi and PDP leaders. He stressed that the discussions are not about personal ambition but about building a political coalition to “rescue Nigeria” from its current economic and social troubles.

Yunusa also clarified that no final deal has been struck yet, but assured that any decision will be in the best interest of the country.

With 2027 still two years away, political watchers say Obi’s latest moves could signal the beginning of a major realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape.
