Police Arrest Two Notorious Gunrunners, Recover Firearms and Stolen Motorcycles in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected notorious gunrunners and the recovery of locally made firearms and four stolen motorcycles during separate operations across the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the suspects — identified as Isah Bello and Sa’idu Haruna, both residents of Damdami village, Richifa Ward, Soba Local Government Area — were apprehended on August 5 by operatives from the Ikara Division.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers stormed Kurmin Kogi village, where the suspects were found. A search of their hideout in a nearby bush led to the recovery of four locally made guns. During the arrest, Bello allegedly resisted and assaulted a police inspector, injuring him in the face. The injured officer is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

In a separate operation on August 7, police detectives from the Dan Magaji Division arrested Shamsudeen Haruna of Galadimawa, Giwa LGA. Haruna was allegedly caught attempting to sell stolen motorcycles. Investigations led to the recovery of four motorcycles and the arrest of a suspected receiver of stolen goods.

According to DSP Hassan, Haruna confessed to being part of a motorcycle theft syndicate that has been terrorizing Zaria, Giwa, and surrounding communities. Efforts are underway to track down other fleeing gang members.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, commended the operatives for their “gallantry and swift action” and warned criminals to steer clear of the state.

“We will continue proactive policing in synergy with the military, DSS, and other security agencies. Anyone caught engaging in armed crimes or receiving stolen property will face the full wrath of the law,” CP Rabiu stated.

The Command also urged market association leaders to be vigilant and monitor members’ activities to curb the sale of stolen motorcycles.

The operation forms part of the police’s broader crackdown on gunrunning, banditry, and armed robbery in Kaduna State, a region that has faced persistent security challenges in recent years.
