Nigeria’s Women’s Team Clinches 10th Continental Title in Thrilling Fashion

Nigeria’s Super Falcons arrived back in Abuja on Monday afternoon to a rousing welcome following their dramatic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The team landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 2:10 p.m., proudly carrying the championship trophy that marked their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

Comeback Victory Stuns Host Nation

In a pulsating final match held on Saturday, the Falcons overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2.

Jennifer Echegini delivered the decisive goal late in the game, sealing a memorable comeback and cementing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

Victory Parade Set for Abuja

The players will be honored with an open-bus victory parade through the capital city. The route is expected to include:

• Airport Road

• Berger Junction

• Maitama

• Wuse Market

The parade will end at the Presidential Villa, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to receive the team and officials in a ceremonial reception.

Ajibade Named Player of the Tournament

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament for her leadership and standout performances. She also joins teammates Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie on the WAFCON Best XI list.

Their collective effort not only brought victory but inspired millions of Nigerians and reaffirmed the team’s status as Africa’s most successful women’s side.

The Super Falcons’ triumph has been widely celebrated across the country, with fans taking to the streets and social media to show support for the team.
